Work order for steel flyover to be issued in a week

THE board meeting of the Bangalore Development Authority on Thursday has accepted the government’s move to go ahead with construction of the steel flyover from Basaveshwara Circle up to Hebbal.

BENGALURU: THE board meeting of the Bangalore Development Authority on Thursday has accepted the government’s move to go ahead with construction of the steel flyover from Basaveshwara Circle up to Hebbal. Work order for the project is set to be issued within a week, said BDA sources.
Mahendra Jain, additional chief secretary (urban development department), told Express, “Our Board members have accepted the government’s proposal. We’ve also made certain observations on the flyover which I cannot divulge now.”

But the 1.6 km extension from Hebbal up to Esteem Mall, which Bengaluru Development Minister KJ George had mooted, was not discussed. According to a top BDA source, “The Board has given green signal only to the 6.7km stretch, which was the original flyover planned. It will be taken up only after Cabinet approval for that stretch.”

Larsen & Toubro Limited and NCC Ltd have been contracted with building the flyover by BDA as a joint venture project and the work order will be issued to them.
“The up and down ramp and three underpasses have been okayed,” the source added. When asked about more formalities involved, the source said, “Everything is cleared now. It is just a matter of a few signatures on files. Work order will be issued within a week.”

Bengaluru Development minister K J George said that all options were considered before deciding on the steel flyover. On extension of another 1.6 km, the minister said technical report will have to be awaited and only then the additional cost can be decided. P4
