The Esko Kongsberg cutting table has been installed at the TCPL’s headquarters in Mumbai, and will facilitate the company’s marketing team in creating prototypes for its customers.

Saket Kanoria, managing director, TCPL Packaging, said, “While the existing Kongsberg sample maker has proven to be a handy tool, the new kit has come at a time when the dynamics of the folding carton packaging is changing. Brands are constantly looking for new design, shape, colour, open-ability of the package for their products, as a result. The SKUs too have increased. This machine enables us to create prototypes faster plus the ability to reach the market faster, which gives us the competitive edge.”

Belgium-based Esko manufactures Kongsberg digital cutting systems, along with a suite of workflow and automation software. Speaking to PrintWeek India, John Winderam, Southern Asia-Pacific general manager for Esko, said, “The Esko Kongsberg table delivers quality, consistency and speed, which helps packaging companies achieve efficiency in fulfilling its customers’ needs. The machine can be integrated with the MIS system on the shop floor and it is also useful for short-run jobs.”

According to Winderam, Esko Kongsberg has a 40% market in the packaging segment, and on its part, the company has been constantly updating its software including a wide range of templates, which its customers can opt for at a nominal fee. “The WebCenter, a web-based platform that manages packaging pre-production specification, approval and project life cycle, is one, which is developed in Bengaluru.”

TCPL is one of the packaging companies in India to have installed the WebCenter during the last financial year.

Kanoria said, “The software has been operational since past few months. It has eliminated errors during the approvals of the artwork, fast-tracking the approval process. It will prove to be very helpful in the long run as all the artworks and changes will be documented for.”

TCPL’s four packaging plants are located in Silvassa, Haridwar, Guwahati and Goa. During 2016-17, TCPL achieved a turnover of over Rs 600-crore.
