The Visakhapatnam-based Dredging Corporation of India (DCI), a miniratna public sector unit, has bagged two major orders recently, including one from Bangladesh.
The DCI recently bagged a ₹102-crore contract for dredging Pussur channel in Bangladesh. Earlier, it got an order from Mumbai port for maintenance dredging for ₹141.06 crore.
It is chartering vessels or forming joint ventures with reputed international companies to tap the global markets. It has also undertaken beach nourishment project in the city.
The DCI has signed an MoU with Riyada Group of Companies in Bahrain to explore ventures in the Gulf.
The Centre has decided to take up disinvestment in the DCI, a move which is being fiercely opposed by the employees, to further dilute its present stake of 73.47 per cent.
It has at present a fleet of 17 dredgers and is planning to acquire more.
