Director

Mr. Ajay Relan is one of the pioneers of the Indian private equity industry. Prior to founding CX Partners, Ajay headed Citi's private equity business since its inception in 1995. Prior to this, Ajay worked with several financial firms in multiple geographies, starting with Citibank in 1976 and the last being the CEO of a Citi affiliated brokerage firm, Citicorp Securities & Investments Ltd.

Ajay has served on the boards of several portfolio companies such as HT Media, Yes Bank, i-Flex and Progeon among others. He holds an MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (1976) and B.A. (Hons) Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University (1974) - top ranked in the University.

Mr. Ajay Relan, B.Com. (Hons.) is the Founder and Managing Partner at CX Partners. Mr. Relan served as the Head of Private Equity Venture in India at Citibank N.A. since 1995.

He founded Citibank N.A. He served as the Managing Director of Citigroup Venture Capital International in India, Citigroup International India and Citigroup Investments India. Mr. Relan served as a Managing Director and Region Head, India at Citi Venture Capital International.

He was at Citi Venture Capital International for 13 years from its inception in July 1995 to July 2008. Mr. Relan serves as a Director for Country Head of CVC-Citigroup. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of CitiCorp. Securities and Investments Ltd. since 1993.

Prior to this, he worked with several financial firms in multiple geographies, starting with Citibank in 1976. He served as Vice President and Head of Saudi American Banks Corporate Finance Division and thereafter as Senior Consultant of Swiss Financial Services Company, where he was involved in restructuring of financial institutions.

He served as Regional Head for Corporate Banking of Saudi Investment Bank. Mr. Relan's work experience includes working for Citigroup and Chase Manhattan Bank in India and overseas. Mr. Relan has been a Non-Executive Independent Director at HT Media Ltd.

He has served as Director of Nuclear Healthcare, NTL Electronics and Thyrocare Technologies Limited. He was Nominee Director at Hemadri Cements Ltd. He served as a Director of Jubilant Life Sciences Limited from August 29, 2005 to October 14, 2008. He served as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Suzlon Energy Ltd., from January 29, 2007 to April 2, 2012. He served as a Director of Himadri Chemicals and Industries Ltd. until August 2008.

He served as a Director of Trident Limited (also known as Abhishek Industries Ltd) from January 25, 2006 to September 24, 2008. He served as a Director of Techno Electric & Engineering Co. from August 25, 2007 to September 2008. He served as an Additional Director of Jindal Drilling & Industries Limited from January 31, 2008 to October 22, 2008. He served as a Director at HT Media Ltd. from May 24, 2007 to September 19, 2008.

He has several years of corporate and investment banking experience in India, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Switzerland. Mr. Relan completed his Owner/President Management Programme from Harvard Business School. Mr. Relan holds an M.B.A. from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in 1976 and graduated with a B.A. Honors in Economics from St. Stephens College, University of Delhi in 1974 where he was top ranked in the University.
