Sanjeev Aga
Chairman and Independent Director
Mr. Sanjeev Aga is the Chairman and Independent Director (Non-Executive) of our Company. He holds a bachelor’s degree in science (Hons.), physics from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi and a post graduate diploma in management from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. In the past, he was associated amongst others with BlowPlast Limited, Aditya Birla Management Corporation Private Limited, Aditya Birla Nuvo Limited, Indus Towers Limited, and Idea Cellular Limited.
Mr. Sanjeev Aga, P.G.D.M. serves as Senior Operating Advisor and Operating Partner at Kedaara Capital Investment Managers Limited. Mr. Aga served as the Business Head of Telecom at Aditya Birla Nuvo Limited. He served as Business Director, Telecom of Aditya Birla Nuvo Limited.
He served as the Managing Director of Aditya Birla Nuvo Limited from May 1, 2005 to October 31, 2006 and also served as its Acting Managing Director with multi-business responsibility, of the erstwhile BlowPlast with the VIP Luggage business. Mr. Aga served as the Managing Director of Idea Cellular Limited from November 1, 2006 to March 31, 2011.
He served as Head of Software, BPO and Insulators of Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd and Business Director of Indo Gulf Fertilisers. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Aditya Birla Nuvo Limited since May 1, 2005. He served as the Chief Executive of the Group's telecom JV, Idea Cellular Limited. In his career with Asian Paints Ltd., in 1973, he rose to occupy senior positions in industrial organisation. Prior to joining Birla AT&T Ltd., he served as the Managing Director of Blow Plast Ltd. from 1993 to 1998. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Birla AT&T Ltd. since 1998.
He served as Marketing Manager of Jenson and Nicholson Limited, Chellarams and Regional Sales Manager of Asian Paints. He was the Chief Executive Officer of Mattel Toys. He serves as Chairman of UFO Moviez India Limited and has been its Independent Non-Executive Director since November 20, 2014. He has been an Independent & Non-Executive Director at Pidilite Industries Limited since July 29, 2011. He has been an Independent Director of Subex Limited since May 17,2011.
He serves as a Director of Indus Towers Ltd. Mr. Aga has been a Director of Aditya Birla Management Corporation Ltd. since April 2002. He serves as a Director of Aditya Birla Telecom Limited, Aditya Birla Science and Technology Co. Ltd., Asian Telephone Services Ltd., Birla NGK Insulators Pvt. Ltd., BTA Cellcom Ltd., Idea Mobile Communications Ltd., Idea Telecommunications Ltd., Sapte Investments Pvt. Ltd. and Swinder Singh Satara & Co. Ltd.
He serves on the Boards of Directors of Idea Cellular, ING Vysya Bank Limited and others including some not-for-profit organisations. He has been a Non-Executive Director of Idea Cellular Ltd. since April 1, 2011 and served as an Executive Director of Idea Cellular Ltd, from November 1, 2006 to March 31, 2011. He served as a Director of Birla Sun Life Insurance Company Limited. He served as a Director of Aditya Birla Nuvo Limited from May 2005 to October 31, 2006.
He served as a Director of Ocean Dial Investment Funds plc until April 2013. He served as a Director of Aditya Birla Minacs Worldwide Ltd. He served as Non Executive Director of Aditya Birla Minacs IT Services Limited (formerly, PSI Data Systems Ltd.) from April 18, 2003 to October 27, 2006.
Mr. Aga served as the Chairman of Cellular Operators Association of India from 2001 to 2002. He served as the Vice Chairman at Cellular Operators Association and served as its Member of Executive Council. He was Director of Cellular Operators Association.
He has had a distinguished 40-year business career. Mr. Aga has an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta in 1973 and a bachelor’s degree in science in Physics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi in 1971. He is a graduate in Physics from Bard College.
